A Buffy Remake? Why?

So, The Powers that Be have decided to reboot the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise. Without Sarah Michelle Gellar. And worse without Joss Whedon. What are they thinking?

Only in some warped parallel universe could this be considered a good thing!

I can see making a reboot sometime in the future, when Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy isn’t still fresh in people’s minds. Buffy has only been off the air for 8 years. For all the fans of my generation, Sarah and Joss were Buffy the Vampire Slayer! I can’t imagine anyone else playing Buffy or anyone else writing for that character. It’s just wrong!

Think about the Superman movies. They gave it nearly twenty years between 1987’s Superman IV, the last Superman movie starring Christopher Reeves and 2006’s Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh. Yet, for a lot of people, Reeves is till the one and only Man of Steel.

When an actor embodies a character they way that Gellar did with Buffy Summers, they are hard to replace. And Joss Whedon? Joss created Buffy, which makes him irreplaceable.

I’m not the only one who thinks so, see what some of the former Scooby Gang had to say:

Alyson Hannigan says:

“Yeah, and that’s a very big mistake in my opinion. I mean if Joss isn’t involved, it’s only the title.”

Anthony Stewart Head says:

“The notion of doing anything to do with Buffy without Joss Whedon’s involvement is wrong.”

So, what are your thoughts on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer remake? Are you dreading it or are you looking forward to it?
