What I'm Into - April 2017

This is the What I’m Into link up at Leigh Kramer’s blog. Each month we share the various things that we’ve been enjoying in our offline and online lives. Be sure to stop by and check out all the other blogs in the link up.

It’s been a while since I’ve written one of the What I’m Into posts. And there’s been a lot going on!

Work has been super hectic. We’re short-handed right now, especially on Saturday and Sunday. I work both of those days and my crew and I are running ourselves ragged to keep the store looking good. I work so hard the first two nights of my rotation that I am exhausted by the last two nights.

On the homefront, Cap and I recently found out that his Grandmother has dementia. It is in the early stages. We’ve been busy taking her to the doctor and helping her get settled in at Cap’s brother’s house. It’s been a big adjustment for all of us. Mammaw has maintained good spirits since finding out her diagnosis though. She is happy to finally know what is wrong with her.

Last week, Cap and I were finally able to take our honeymoon. We weren’t able to right after we got married because we chose to get married and move to our new house in the same week. We spent several days in Pigeon Forge. It was nice to get away and not have any responsibilities or worries for a few days.

And we’re still working on getting the house completely unpacked. Have you ever moved before? Did it take you this long to unpack too? It’s like it’s never ending!

And yesterday I started Spring cleaning. I couldn’t go back to work without knocking a few things off that Spring cleaning list or I would go nuts! I hate being busy but I love being productive and it felt so good to see the house shining.

There’s still a lot to do, but I took the time to actually write my To Do list down in my bullet journal. It really does help to clear your mind when you write things down!

Reading

I have managed to work in a little reading this year though I’m way behind where I was at this point last year. So far I’ve read Ash and Bramble, The Chemist, All the Missing Girls, Shadow and Bone, and Siege and Storm. I just started the Ruin and Rising, the last book of the Grisha Trilogy.

I started The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine but I couldn’t get into it. Have you read it? Should I give it another try?

One of my goals this year is to read the books I own, I already owned all of these books except All the Missing Girls. So I feel pretty good about this goal. I have bought some new books though – two books by Louise Penny and by Brene Brown.

Watching

Cap and I are binge-watching Burn Notice. It’s so good! We’ve also been watching Riverdale, season three of The 100, and lots of The Andy Griffith Show when Mammaw is over.

New things for 2017

Another goal I have for this year is to try 12 new things. So far I’ve tried sushi, which was pretty good. I would definitely eat it again. I also watched Rocky Horror Picture Show. This is probably a movie that needs to be watched when you’re younger. I could see then how it would become a favorite. Because I know a lot of people love this movie the same way I do Hairspray and Crybaby, and part of that love comes from nostalgia. It was worth watching once but that’s enough for me.

Celebrating

The flowers blooming in our yard! I’m so excited about them! Here are a few pics so I can brag about them!

My Peonies

The iris!

Blogging

I asked a few questions – Is Twitter Worth it Anymore? and Are Bloggers Real Writers?

And on my birthday last month, I shared 38 truths for 38 years.

I also wrote about The Women that I Admire Most and 9 Expenses to Prepare for when Buying Your First Home.

So this is what I’ve been up to? Now what about you? Read any good books? Got any Netflix suggestions? Let me knwo in the comments!

  1. Your “try new things” challenge is such a great idea, I might need to do something similar. I am terrible at branching out of my comfort zone! I have been enjoying Andy Griffith lately as well. . . some shows just never get old! 😉

  2. Oh, I loved your post on bloggers being writers!! And moving is SUCH A PAIN. Plus, so expensive. It was like 999 things came up right when we moved. We were at lowe’s and home depot like 5 times that week buying odds and ends that we didn’t realize we would need for the house.

I really want to read ALL THE MISSING GIRLS. Did you like it?

    • Thank you! We were at home Depot a lot too! And yes I really enjoyed All the Missing Girls. I like having two mysteries to solve!
