My Kindle Fire

When e-readers first came out, I was one of those who swore I would never use one. How could they replace the feel of a real book in your hand? Or the smell? Or the satisfaction of placing it on your book shelf after finishing it? They couldn’t! It was impossible!

But then I saw one of the girls I work with reading hers. She let me play around with it and I was hooked! What can I say? I love gadgets! While I do miss the things I mentioned above, I do enjoy being able to purchase a book and immediately start reading it, all without ever having to leave my home. I also love that you can download classics, like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz for free!

The Great Book of Amber

After reading this post over at Fantasy Casting, I knew I needed to reread this series. It had been a long time, and the world of Amber was always one on my favorites. Plus, Corwin is one of the most badass characters ever! He and his conniving, manipulative, ambitious brothers and sisters make for truly entertaining reading. It’s an awesome series.

Emmie Mears’ blog posts on Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I recently stumbled across Emmie’s blog and it is awesome! One of my favorite things about her blog is her posts on Buffy. I haven’t read all of them. (Yet!) But I have really enjoyed the ones that I have. Check out: Evil Evoking Sympathy: How the Mayor Won Hearts, Monday Man: Spike, and She Saved the World A Lot.

Paula – I like seeing your favorite things!! Your recent purchases at J-Crew look so cute, you can wear them so many ways, great choices for Spring. My favorite thing clothes-wise lately is a pair of JAG petite jeans with a (stay with me) stretchy waistband. They smooth me out so nicely and still look like great jeans. They are also straight leg, which is a nice break from my usual boot-cut and my occasional skinny jean. I also had some exciting thrift shop scores the other day – a tiered sleeveless short dress that I can wear over jeans as a tunic (adding a cardigan) and two pairs of flats from TJMaxx that I adore – one copper metallic (shiny!) and one red pair with a flower on the tip. They cheer me up just looking at them. Okay, I got all of that clothing stuff out of my system. Thanks, and I hope you are feeling better (read your bday post!). And happy birthday! -Alexandra

It’s sounds like you got some great clothes! :) Don’t you just love red shoes? I have a pair of red flats too, and they always make me feel so stylish when I wear them. Now I just need a leopard print pair!

Hi Paula, I have to admit I have never held an e-reader in my hand. I so like books that I simply can’t imagine it. But, after reading your post and listening to others I will at least have to give it a try. One of my sisters has one, but she lives on the other side of the country so I can’t play with hers. Probably if I play with one I’ll be hooked like you, as I love all the new tech stuff. I’ve read some of the Buffy posts, too, and they are good. So thanks for pointing them out.

Paula, I LOVE my Kindle! It’s just the basic version, but I take it with me everywhere. I was determined to never get one, for all the reasons you said! But my sister-in-law got one for her birthday in October, and believe it or not, it was the case that got me intrigued! It was so cute and convenient. My husband has been trying to get me to get one for months. The last vacation we took, I think I packed 5 or 6 books. If we ever fly anywhere, that can be a pain with checking a bag. I miss going to the library and still feel a little guilty, but I love it and use it all the time. :-)

Thank you Jen! That sounds like me, wanting something because it has a cute case. LOL Don’t some libraries offer lending for e-readers? Maybe your local one does, and then you wouldn’t have to feel guilty anymore! :)

I hear ya on the Kindle, Paula! I thought that I wouldn’t ever betray physical books, but the Kindle is just so convenient. =P And it’s the only way I can get all the English books I want for so much cheaper here in Peru! I’ve heard that you can link up to the local library back in Canada too. Can’t wait to try it! =)

Other current favorite things of mine: my new engagement ring, my how water bottle, and my WalMart blue-jean leggings. =P
