Is it too late to be posting 2017 goal posts? Well, even if it is, I’m still posting mine! My yearly goal posts are one of my favorite things to write. I love making lists and I love having something to work toward. It’s a smaller list and not as specific as my lists for 2016, but it’s a start.
Find a new balance
I’m a wife now. How insane is that?! And a homeowner! These are some big life changes and as with all life changes, comes finding a new way to balance everything.
I crave balance and routine. It’s one reason I’m still on night shift. It has the most consistent schedule for my position. I always know what I’m going to work so it’s easier to plan my life.
So I now I need to find a way to balance taking care of my husband, our dogs, and our home on top of work and the blog. Luckily Cap is supportive of my writing and does all he can to help me.
The biggest adjustment will be learning to take care of a home. I’ve been living in an apartment where I never had to worry about maintenance. But now Cap and I will have to do all the maintenance of our home ourselves. Mowing the yard, taking off the trash, cleaning the gutters. Everything is on us. We can do it together I know. We just need to find the right routine to get it all done.
Continue to Grow the Blog
The blog grew so much last year! Especially when I was blogging and sharing my posts on social media consistently. November and December were hectic months for me, so the blog took a back seat. But in 2017 I want to pick up where I left off and keep growing the blog.
Turning the blog into a business is still not something that I’m considering but I do want people to actually read my blog. So I have to continue to promote it even though self-promotion is still one of the hardest things for me to do.
I plan to concentrate more on promoting my posts on Pinterest and making connections in Facebook groups. I also plan to finally get serious about growing my email list which every successful blogger says is a must do!
Read my unread books
All bookworms know my pain! There are just too many books and too little time! But this year I plan to make a dent in my To Be Read List! How am I going to do this you ask? I’m going on a book buying ban! Yeah I know it sounds impossible! But if I stop buying so many books then I can focus on reading the books I own but haven’t read yet. And I have a lot of books that I haven’t read yet!
There is a loophole to book buying ban, though. Their names are Agatha Christie and Louise Penny. I’m addicted to these two and there is no way I can go a whole year without buying some more of their books.
Take better care of myself
I’m terrible at this! Well, I’m terrible at being consistent at it. I will go for a while and do all the right things like wash my face before bed, never miss my thyroid medicine, but then something happens and I fall off routine.
But this year, I need to find the consistency and take better care of myself all the time. Or at least the majority of the time.
Try 12 new things
I got this idea from Sarah at Yes and Yes. Every year she makes a list of things that she has never done before that she wants to try. So I’m going to do that too!
I’m starting with 12 items. I figure that will be one new thing a month. Of course, January is almost over and I haven’t even started yet, but I still feel like this a manageable number.
My list isn’t complete yet but here is what I’m starting with:
- Eat sushi
- Watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show
- Go Geocaching
- Watch the Titanic
- Go to a Comic Convention
- Read a book by a Bronte sister
If you have any suggestions for new things, definitely let me know!
Now, what about you? What are your goals for 2017? Any advice for the new wife? Let me know in the comments!
