The list is long for my favorite quotes. I know you are SO surprised. lol I have collected quotes since I was a kid. I also collected unusual names and words, which I gave up on, but I do still collect quotes.
One of my favorites of my favorite quotes is by Oscar Wilde, “Life is too important to be taken seriously.” The first time I read this I had no idea who Oscar Wilde was, but I loved this quote. It was exactly my philosophy of life. When I younger, I never took anything seriously. I was shy and quiet, so a lot of people thought I was serious, but I wasn’t. I loved to laugh and I promised myself I would never grow up, and that was what this quote represented to me.
Now that I am older, I still love this quote, but it means something a little different. What it means to me now is to find the humor in the situations life puts you in. When something happens to you, you really only have two choices. You can either cry about it, or you can laugh about it. I prefer to laugh. When you are able to find the humor in a situation, suddenly something that seemed horrible, doesn’t seem so bad anymore. You feel like you can deal with it. Because life is too important to dwell on the bad things, or to worry about things you can’t control. We can’t be serious all the time, we need to enjoy life and find the humor in it.
This may not be exactly what Oscar meant, but it is what it means to me. Remembering this quote has helped me out many times when I was down.
