2016 - Remembering the good in a tough year

I was reading this post at Forever Amber, and I realized that she was right. 2016 has been a rough year for so many.

One of my dearest friends just found out that her Dad has cancer. He started chemo this week. One of my co-workers had to take off work to care for her elderly parents. Several others are facing health issues of their own. And just a few weeks ago, one of my co-workers passed away unexpectedly. She had a blood clot on her lung and died in her sleep. When I got the call telling me the news, it felt like a bad joke. At any moment I knew someone was going to say that they were kidding, that she was really OK. Our store is devastated by her loss.

For me personally, this has been the hardest year in my 16 years of retail. I’m facing one the lowest periods of morale I’ve ever been through. I’ve also had several bouts of sickness, including pink eye.

It’s been a tough year. For all of us.

But the gist of Amber’s post was not to focus so much on the bad that we forget to appreciate the good around us. I don’t want to diminish the terrible things that are happening, but I don’t want to forget that there is good in my life too. Without the good, it would be easy to become discouraged, and how can you face life like that?

So, I decided to make a list of all the good things in my life right now. Just to remind myself to be thankful for all that I have.

My amazing boyfriend! Cap has been a rock during my struggles with work. He lets me vent and offers good advice. It’s wonderful knowing that he’s always in my corner.

This blog. Which I’m excited about again! It’s my space to be creative which makes me a happier person.

Buffy. Because life is better with a Chihuahua.

The Love Notes Project. This is such a wonderful group of ladies! And nothing can brighten a day like getting real mail in your mailbox!

Agatha Christie. The Queen of Mystery! I finally discovered her books and I’m loving them!

Baby Owen. My nephew isn’t here yet, but we’re all eagerly awaiting his arrival!

A baby boom. My sister isn’t the only one pregnant, two of our close friends are also having babies. All boys!

A wonderful vacation. Cap and I had our first getaway and it was so much fun!

Relay for Life. Even though it rained, and I got soaked saving our tent from collapsing, I had a blast!

You can’t ignore the bad things in life. You shouldn’t. We all need time to grieve. But remembering the good things makes it easier to face the bad.

So, tell me, what is good in your life right now? Let me know in the comments!
