Day 24 – People think I’m too serious because…

Posted September 19, 2012 by Paula in 30 Day Challenge / 3 Comments

… I’m introverted.

For some reason if you are quiet, shy and introverted people automatically assume you are serious. What’s up with that?!

I’m also a bit of a loner, so that probably doesn’t help either.

I am serious about some things, like my job. I want to be successful and always do my best, but I also have fun at work. I don’t want to be bored and I don’t want my people to be bored. So, I always try to keep things interesting. If you find your job interesting and are excited about what you do, it is so much easier to go to work everyday.

I like to laugh and have fun as much as the next person. But I don’t like big groups or parties. I enjoy just hanging around with my small group of friends and doing things like watching movies, shopping or four-wheeling.

I like to make people laugh, and I enjoy teasing the people that I like. And I don’t mind being teased back. If you can dish it out, you should be able to take it. 🙂 Also, I always try to find the humor in situations. When bad things happen you can choose to laugh or to cry, and I choose to laugh.

Do people think that you’re too serious? Tell me why in the comments!

  1. Paula – love this post! I too have been accused of being too “serious” about many things. I used to get offended, but now I see it as a compliment. (It reminds me how I used to hate it when people would tell me to smile more. I’m far from grim, but I don’t smile every second!) Serious to me now means the opposite of superficial–it means you are approaching your life with depth–depth of career goals, depth of friendship (like you, I’m introvert and prefer quality over quantity in terms of relationships, depth of passion, depth of humor and creativity, depth of spirituality. . . I could go on and on. So I am glad to see you celebrate your seriousness and all its beauty!

    • Thank you Alexandra! I’ve gotten the “you should smile more” thing too! I think people associate loud and extroverted with fun, and quiet and introverted with boring, and I don’t find that true at all! 🙂

  2. Ooh! I can relate to this in a funny sort of way. In person, people usually think that I’m super extroverted, but I’m actually a borderline introvert. And when my introvert side comes out, people think I’m sad about something. =P It’s so weird how introversion can be so misinterpreted!

For the record, you don’t seem introverted to me at all. =)
